Endfire Engineering, with which Ferm Engineering is working on fire systems for a huge high-hazard facility in the Northern Territory, has won a major fire industry award.

Ferm is the fire engineer and fire systems certifier for Endfire Engineering, which won Fire Protection Project of the Year at the Fire Protection Association Australia’s (FPAA) annual awards.

The bulk fuel facility and ancillary infrastructure, known as Project Caymus, will transfer and store jet fuel at East Arm, Darwin, when completed this year. The $270 million project, with a total capacity of 300 million litres, will service Australian and US defence operations in the Indo-Pacific region.

FPAA is the national peak body for the fire protection and fire training industry. The awards were presented at a dinner at The Star, Broadbeach, Queensland, on 8 May as part of Fire Australia 2024, a conference at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre on 7-9 May.

Project Caymus’s 11-tank facility is managed by Crowley Australia and being built by Latitude 63, a specialist in bulk fuel facilities.

Ferm conducted the facility’s risk assessments and hazardous area code reviews, developed specialty performance solutions for the fire systems, designed detection and alarm systems, and prepared portable fire system designs.

Ferm is currently preparing the final commissioning programs for Endfire Engineering to manage fire foams, radiant barriers, hydrants, pumps and deluge spray sprinkler systems.

Congratulations to Endfire Engineering. Ferm is proud to be working with the Endfire team on such a major fire engineering project and it’s great to be a part of their technical support.
