Project Overview
The longest tunnel in the Brisbane region, the fire pumping systems were a challenging arrangement for KSB pumps to have completed. Ferm Engineering was engaged to assist and test the large flow and high pressure pumps, delivering fire water to the tunnel with a 6 km pipe network and 2 pump sites, located at each end.
It was quickly diagnosed with pipe network issues and pump setups were incorrectly programmed. These had to be resolved in short time to allow the tunnel to open. Testing at all hours in the night, the pumps were revised in their setups and retested until the combined deluge and hydrant flows were working. Modifications to the pipe network were programmed with the Tunnel designers and installation was completed, but not without issues.
The systems are functioning to protect the tunnel with its thousand of commuters
